    <fulldesc>&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;New Delhi, Feb 2 (KNN)&lt;/strong&gt; Eyeing at providing boost to the leather sector comprising of a fair share of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country, Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu unveiled the central governments 2,600 crore package for leather and footwear industry.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;

&lt;p&gt;The package was approved recently by the Union Cabinet last month aiming towards employment generation in leather and footwear sector sanctioning the amount for the next three financial years.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Prabhu unveiled the package during the inaugural event of the 33rd India International Leather Fair (IILF).&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Prabhu in his address during the event said that with the package in place, the government has set the target of generating over 3.24 lakh new jobs in the sector.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Also the package is to prove instrumental towards formalisation of over two lakh jobs in the next three financial years.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Further, the government is to set up mega leather, footwear and accessories clusters and also provide the required support in this regard, Prabhu said.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Commenting over the recent trends indicating decline of exports, Prabhu said that the government is in full form to help exporters re-engage in the global market and the industries in the country must be ready to embrace and become part of the global supply chain. &lt;strong&gt;(KNN/DA) &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
