ENA Sectors 2018-02-02 05:47:46 <p><strong>New Delhi, Feb 2 (KNN)</strong> Eyeing at providing boost to the leather sector comprising of a fair share of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country, Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu unveiled the central governments 2,600 crore package for leather and footwear industry.</p> <p>The package was approved recently by the Union Cabinet last month aiming towards employment generation in leather and footwear sector sanctioning the amount for the next three financial years.</p> <p>Prabhu unveiled the package during the inaugural event of the 33rd India International Leather Fair (IILF).</p> <p>Prabhu in his address during the event said that with the package in place, the government has set the target of generating over 3.24 lakh new jobs in the sector.</p> <p>Also the package is to prove instrumental towards formalisation of over two lakh jobs in the next three financial years.</p> <p>Further, the government is to set up mega leather, footwear and accessories clusters and also provide the required support in this regard, Prabhu said.</p> <p>Commenting over the recent trends indicating decline of exports, Prabhu said that the government is in full form to help exporters re-engage in the global market and the industries in the country must be ready to embrace and become part of the global supply chain. <strong>(KNN/DA) </strong></p> 18980 http://knnindia.co.in/news/newsdetails/sectors/govt-unveils-2600-crore-package-for-leather-and-footwear-industry 2018-02-02 05:47:46 knnindia.co.in
