ENA Sectors 2023-02-21 16:43:17 <p><span style="font-size:14px"><strong>New Delhi, Feb 21 (KNN)</strong> As per a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) released on Tuesday the fossil fuel industry is failing to tackle methane emissions in spite of its pledges to uncover and fix leaking infrastructure.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Some 135 million tonnes of methane, a potent greenhouse gas has been released into the atmosphere in 2022 by the global energy industry.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px"><strong><a href="https://bit.ly/3B9mZSj"><img alt="FOLLOW US on GOOGLE NEWS" src="https://knnindia.co.in//uploads/gallery/GoogleNews.jpg" style="border-style:solid; border-width:1px; height:95px; margin:1px; width:299px" /></a></strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">As compared to the record high amount released in 2019, last year's emissions were only slightly below it. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">This happened despite a backdrop of high energy prices and surging demand for natural gas that provided extra incentives to capture methane, the report said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Methane is the main component of natural gas, so captured emissions can be sold as fuel.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said in a statement that there is just no excuse.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Although some progress has been made, emissions are still far too high and not falling fast enough - especially as methane cuts are among the cheapest options to limit near-term global warming, Birol said. <em><strong>(KNN Bureau)</strong></em></span></p> 32381 https://knnindia.co.in/news/newsdetails/sectors/fossil-fuel-industry-fails-to-commit-to-its-lower-methane-emissions-goals 2023-02-21 16:43:17 knnindia.co.in
