ENA Sectors 2024-07-25 17:52:50 <p><span style="font-size:14px"><strong>New Delhi, Jul 25 (KNN)</strong> In a significant move to bolster India's technological landscape, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has made substantial progress in expanding the nation's tech infrastructure.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The government has established 65 STPI centres across the country, based on proposals from various State Governments. These centres, operated by Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), an autonomous society under MeitY, aim to foster software development and exports. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">In a forward-looking move, the government has also approved plans for 20 additional STPI centres nationwide, signalling a continued commitment to technological growth.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Launched in October 2012, the Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) Scheme was designed to create world-class infrastructure and common facilities to attract investments in the electronics sector. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Before its closure for applications in October 2017, the scheme approved 19 Greenfield Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) and 3 Common Facility Centres (CFCs). These projects span 15 states, indicating a widespread effort to boost electronics manufacturing across India.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Recognising the need for further infrastructure strengthening and ecosystem development, MeitY introduced the Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) Scheme on April 1, 2020. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">This modified scheme aims to address evolving requirements in the electronics manufacturing sector. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Since its inception, 5 applications for EMC projects and 1 application for a Common Facility Centre have been approved, covering six states.
