ENA Sectors 2024-07-30 16:26:33 New Delhi, Jul 30 (KNN) In a significant development for India's telecommunications industry, government officials have reported that domestically designed and manufactured telecom equipment is now being exported to over 100 countries. The sector's global reach was underscored by exports of telecom equipment and services exceeding USD 18.2 billion in the previous fiscal year. Madhu Arora, Member (Technology) of the Digital Communications Commission, Department of Telecom, noted the success of Indian telecom companies in Western markets, including the United States, despite intense international competition. Arora also revealed that the Indian Army has integrated its first indigenous chip-based 4G mobile base station, developed by Indian R&D firms, marking a milestone in defence technology self-reliance. The 'Defence Sector ICT Conclave' in New Delhi provided a platform for 18 companies to showcase their products. Arora emphasised the critical role of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in defence operations and praised India's ICT sector for its innovation and global presence. Expanding on India's international ICT collaborations, Abhishek Singh, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted efforts to enhance cooperation with African nations. Singh noted that Indian investments in Africa have reached approximately USD 75 billion, with Indian companies contributing significantly to the continent's digital transformation. Sandeep Aggarwal, Immediate Past Chairman, Telecom Equipment & Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC), stressed the importance of ICT in maintaining national sovereignty and integrity. Aggarwal also pointed out India's expertise in data analytics and artificial intelligence, noting their potential to enhance decision-making and operational effectiveness in defence. In related news, Apple is reportedly planning to introduce 'Make in India' versions of its iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models shortly after their global launch this fall. These high-end devices, assembled at Foxconn's facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, are expected to be available in India within 1-2 months of the global release. The standard iPhone 16 model is slated to be available in India on the first day of global sales, mirroring last year's iPhone 15 release strategy.
