CUTS Marks 25 Years in Zambia with Launch of Consumer Portal and Global Report

ENA Global 2025-06-26 15:22:08 New Delhi, Jun 26 (KNN) CUTS International, a global public policy research and advocacy organization, celebrated its 40th anniversary and 25 years of operations in Zambia with a special event in Lusaka. Lillian Bwalya, Permanent Secretary at Zambias Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, applauded CUTS for its long-standing efforts in bridging gaps between consumers, regulators, and policymakers since 2000. She emphasized CUTS' vital role in advocating for consumer rights, particularly amid increasing trade liberalization. Bwalya also highlighted the importance of a transparent, rules-based global trading system, cautioning that while multilateral frameworks offer opportunities, they also present challenges—especially for least-developed countries. As part of the celebration, CUTS launched its new Consumer Portal and a publication titled The Innovative Route to Development: The Indo-Pacific Perspective and the Future of G20 and Africa. The launch was led by CUTS Secretary General, Pradeep S. Mehta. In his speech, Mehta hailed the African Union's recent inclusion in the G20 as a chance for Africa to shape global conversations on inclusive and sustainable development. He noted that the new compendium, featuring insights from global experts, tackles pressing issues like climate change, cybersecurity, and geopolitical tensions. The Indo-Pacifics future depends on our shared capacity to resolve global challenges through dialogue and cooperation, Mehta said. He also urged reforms in global trade policies to better align with Africas development goals. Distinguished speakers included Indian High Commissioner to Zambia Alok Ranjan Jha, ex-Bank of Zambia Governor Dr. Caleb Fundanga, and experts from ZIPAR and other leading institutions. The event, themed Aligning Economic, Trade, and Regulatory Policies for Sustainable Development, drew over 60 stakeholders from various sectors to discuss pathways to inclusive growth.
