Mobile Phone Exports Jump To Rs 2 Lakh Cr In 2024

ENA Sectors 2025-07-24 16:59:04 New Delhi, July 24 (KNN) Mobile phone exports from India have surged 127-fold, reaching Rs 2 lakh crore in 2024 25, up from just Rs 1,500 crore in 2014 15, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. In a written reply to Parliament, Prasada attributed the growth largely to the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing (LSEM), launched to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce import dependence. The PLI Scheme for LSEM has attracted a cumulative investment of Rs 12,390 crore, facilitated a production output of Rs 8.44 lakh crore, enabled exports worth Rs 4.65 lakh crore, and created over 1.3 lakh direct jobs as of June 2025, the minister stated. He further noted a dramatic shift in Indias mobile phone import dependency. While 75 percent of domestic demand was met through imports in 2014 15, the figure has now declined to a mere 0.02 percent in 2024 25. Highlighting the sectors transformation, Prasada said, The PLI scheme has been instrumental in turning India from a net importer to a net exporter of mobile phones. Bharat is now the second-largest mobile manufacturing country in the world. In addition to mobile phones, the PLI 2.0 scheme for IT hardware has also begun showing results. It has attracted cumulative investments of Rs 717.13 crore, led to production worth Rs 12,195.84 crore, and created over 5,000 direct jobs by June 2025. On the investment front, total foreign direct investment (FDI) in electronics manufacturing since FY 2020 21 stands at USD 4.07 billion, with MeitY PLI beneficiaries accounting for USD 2.8 billion of this amount.
