APEDA Organises Organic Conclave, Buyer Seller Meet To Boost Assam Agri-Exports

ENA Sectors 2026-01-20 16:19:47 New Delhi, Jan 20 (KNN) The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, organised an Organic Conclave-cum-Buyer Seller Meet in Guwahati in collaboration with the Government of Assam, aimed at strengthening agri-export linkages and improving market access for the States agricultural and processed food products. The event saw participation from over 30 exporters, nine importers and around 50 Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) from Assam. The Buyer Seller Meet provided a structured platform for business-to-business interactions, enabling producers, exporters and buyers to explore trade opportunities and establish long-term partnerships in domestic and international markets. Assams diverse agro-climatic conditions support a wide range of export-oriented commodities, including Assam Joha Rice, non-basmati speciality rice varieties, banana, pineapple, mandarin orange, Assam lemon, and organic spices such as ginger, turmeric and black pepper, along with other horticultural and organic produce. The conclave also featured a sensitisation session on the 8th edition of the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), covering regulatory and labelling requirements to enhance awareness and ensure compliance with international quality and certification standards. Addressing the event, Assam Agriculture, Horticulture and Excise Minister Atul Bora said the State and the Northeast have a strong basket of organically grown and GI-tagged products with global demand, and with support in aggregation, certification, infrastructure and market access, Assam aims to scale up exports while ensuring sustainable farmer livelihoods. Agriculture Production Commissioner, Government of Assam, Aruna Rajoria highlighted the importance of strengthening aggregation and market linkages in collaboration with APEDA. APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev underscored the States export potential and referred to farmer-friendly provisions under the revised NPOP, as well as expanded market access through Organic Mutual Recognition Agreements with Australia and New Zealand and recently concluded free trade agreements with the UK, Oman and EFTA countries. The conclave reflects APEDAs ongoing efforts to integrate regional strengths into Indias agri-export growth strategy and position Assam as a key contributor to high-value and sustainable agricultural exports.
