NHAI Signs MoU With Vehicle Aggregators To Strengthen Highway Safety

ENA Sectors 2026-03-11 17:18:16 New Delhi, Mar 11 (KNN) The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several commercial vehicle aggregator platforms to enhance safety, efficiency and participative governance across the National Highway network through technology-driven solutions. The agreement was signed by Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), a company promoted by NHAI, at the NHAI headquarters in New Delhi. Under the collaboration, the aggregator platforms will integrate the Rajmargyatra App to enable real-time dissemination of safety alerts to drivers. The alerts will include information on accident-prone stretches, road diversions, construction zones, stray cattle presence and adverse weather conditions. The platforms will also encourage voluntary registration on the app and share usage data and feedback with authorities. The initiative will promote participative governance through a driver-led reporting system that allows commercial drivers to report highway-related issues using geo-tagged inputs. Reports on problems such as potholes, damaged crash barriers, non-functional streetlights, faded road markings and unsafe roadside conditions will be integrated into the Rajmargyatra platform for centralised resolution. To strengthen emergency response mechanisms, the aggregator platforms will integrate a one-click Call 1033 feature in their applications, providing direct access to the National Highway Helpline. Drivers who consent to share their geo-location will be able to receive faster assistance along with updates on ambulance dispatch and information about the nearest hospitals. As part of the initiative, the platforms will also disseminate national highway safety awareness content through in-app modules to promote responsible driving behaviour. The awareness campaigns will focus on discouraging over-speeding and wrong-side driving, maintaining lane discipline, avoiding unsafe stopping or reversing and encouraging timely use of the 1033 emergency helpline. The programme also introduces the Vishisht Saarthi recognition initiative to acknowledge commercial drivers who demonstrate exemplary adherence to highway safety norms. Drivers identified by aggregator platforms will be honoured with certificates and digital badges to encourage responsible driving practices. Additionally, the platforms will facilitate structured feedback from drivers regarding toll plaza operations, including waiting times, charging accuracy and lane efficiency, as well as services at wayside amenities such as hygiene standards, pricing transparency and service quality. They will also support the reporting of FASTag-related issues, including incorrect toll deductions, delayed transaction updates, disputes and Know Your Vehicle-related concerns, enabling faster resolution through coordinated digital systems.
