India-US Trade Talks Continue, Focus On Agriculture Market Access

ENA Global 2026-04-23 16:06:30 New Delhi, Apr 23 (KNN) India remains a tough nut to crack in trade negotiations, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said, as a visiting Indian delegation concluded discussions with US officials on a proposed bilateral trade agreement. A 12-member Indian delegation, led by Darpan Jain, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, held detailed discussions with the US team headed by Brendan Lynch. The three-day negotiations, which focused on finalising key provisions of the agreement, ended on Wednesday. Speaking before the United States Congress Committee on Ways and Means, on Wednesday, Greer noted that India has long protected its agricultural market, PTI reported. As part of this deal, they want to protect a lot of that. There are things, though, where I think we can find mutual agreement. DDGs (distillers dried grains) is a good example of this, he said. However, he indicated that there is scope for compromise on certain commodities, including DDGs, a high-protein livestock feed, as well as soybean meal and ethanol exports. Greer said both sides are engaged in detailed discussions on specific trade items, particularly DDGs, which remains a key US export interest. He confirmed that Indian negotiators were in Washington during the week to advance talks on these issues. While differences persist, particularly over agriculture and market access, both sides have signalled willingness to continue engagement.
